Virg Cerveny -

One of the pioneers to the high school bowling programs in Cedar Rapids, Virg Cerveny spent 31 years coaching boys & girls bowling at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.  In his span which began in 1992, he helped coach three girls teams to state team titles (all prior to IGHSAU & IHSAA sanctioning).  Two of his bowlers have been individual state champions and he coach two state individual runner-up winners.  He had a total of 47 teams (23 boys & 24 girls) qualify for the state tournament.  His teams have earned several Mississippi Valley Conference crowns and many of his bowlers have received scholarships to bowl at the collegiate level.   Virg was also active with the youth at Saturday bowling leagues in Cedar Rapids and organized summer clinics for high school and younger bowlers.  He became an assistant coach for the Mt. Mercy University men's & women's bowling team in 2011 making a profound impact on players.  An accomplished bowler himself, he is a member of the Cedar Rapids & Iowa Bowling Hall of Fame, a USBC Bronze Level coach and was a recipient of the IGHSAU Golden Plaque of Distinction.  His mentorship reached into the lives of his players as well, guiding them through an important time in their lives.  He is and will always be a J-Hawk.  Thank you coach.
